Thought it would fun to share an older portrait I had done and the transition as it developed. I had first posted this on
Wetcanvas.com a few years ago. You have to view it from the bottom up.

Start blocking in the hair and more work in the features.

In this step, I take a dark bistre or charcoal pencil and lightly suggest where the features will be.

The first few steps are just blocking in some large shapes and looking for the general placement of the head.

Just getting some color on the paper

This is great Mike. I love painting Rastafarians. They exude a gentleness which makes them so nice to paint.
